80년대 바깥미술운동 사례 자료 아카이브

1980년대 집회 현장에 있어본 사람이라면 최병수의 <한열이를 살려내라!>와 같은 강렬한 이미지의 걸개그림을 잊지 못할 것이다. 큰 천에 뚜렷한 윤곽선 형상으로 그려져 건물의 한 벽면을 덮었던 걸개그림은 민중가요와 함께 집회 참여자에게 힘을 불어넣었던 기재였다.

이렇게 막강한 힘을 주었던 현장미술 작품과 이들에 관한 기록들은 지금 어디에 있는가? 누군가의 앨범 속에, 또는 어느 책상 서랍이나 장롱 속에 갇힌 채 우리의 기억에서 사라져가고 있다.

이제는 역사적 기록물, 또는 미술사적 작품이 된 1980년대 현장미술 자료들을 모아 아카이브로 구축하는 사업이 진행되고 있다. 바깥미술연구공간 ‘산방’에서 추진하는 ‘80년대 바깥미술(현장미술)운동 사례 자료 아카이브’가 그것이다.

‘산방’은 ‘공공공간’이나 ‘주민 참여’ 등 바깥미술의 공공적 역할에 대한 연구와 사업을 하는 곳으로 2002년부터 시작된 ‘바깥미술연구공간’이다.

지난해 기획되고 2005년 3월부터 시작된 이 사업은, 1980년대 미술운동의 중요한 한 축을 이루었던 바깥미술운동의 사진 및 기록물을 체계적으로 정리하고자 하는 사업으로 민족미술인협회(이하 민미협)의 ‘민중미술20년사 편찬 사업’과 연계하여 진행되고 있다.

개인이나 단체 등에 흩어져 사라질 위기에 처한 현장미술에 관한 자료들이 이 사업을 통해 수집, 정리되어 아카이브로 구축될 예정이다. 이렇게 구축된 아카이브는 1980년대 현장미술 운동의 전개 과정과 성과를 살펴보고 현재의 현장미술이 나아가야 할 지점을 짚어줄 것으로 기대된다. ‘산방’ 측은 “정리된 콘텐츠를 자료집 형태로 엮어낼 것이며, 블로그 등의 웹공간을 통해 사회적으로 공유할 것”이라고 밝혔다.

수집 대상 자료는 1980년부터 1992년까지 전국에서 있었던 현장미술 운동과 관련된 모든 시각매체의 사진과 기록물로, 시각물이 포함된 집회 및 행사 광경, 시각물 제작 및 설치 과정 사진, 그리고 개별 작품의 기록 사진 등에 걸친 모든 이미지 자료와 관련 문건들이다.

사업의 책임을 맡고 있는 작가 박야일은 “이번 사업을 통해 바깥미술의 모체라 할 수 있는 것들에 대한 자료화가 이루어지기를 기대한다”고 말했다.

자료를 보내는 방법은 우편(143-222 서울시 광진구 중곡2동 35-10 바깥미술연구공간 산방)이나 이메일(yaa111@naver.com)을 통하면 된다. 사업은 11월 말까지 진행될 예정이다.
